HBO cancels 'Enlightened' after second season

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Laura Dern and Mike White’s HBO series Enlightened has been canceled after just two seasons.

According to The Huffington Post, HBO released a statement after announcing the news. The statement reads, “It was a very difficult decision. We've decided not to continue 'Enlightened' for a third season. We're proud of the show and we look forward to working with Mike White and Laura Dern in the future."

Enlightened starred the likes of Diane Ladd, Sarah Burns, Luke Wilson and Timm Sharp alongside Dern who not only created the series but starred as well.

Dern won a Golden Globe in 2012 for her role as Amy Jellioce, a self-destructive executive who searches to regain her grasp on life following a stint in rehab, The Hollywood Reporter notes.

Following the finale, Dern tweeted her hope for a third season writing, “So excited to share our finale with you tonight. I feel honored to play Amy & be part of her finding her voice. We pray to explore more.”

Reports suggest that a dip in viewership attributed to its cancellation. HBO also has several new shows premiering soon.
