'The Host' rolls out blue carpet

'The Host' Premiere looked more like a welcome event for aliens...

The highly-anticipated upcoming film The Host premiered at ArcLight Cinemas last night and saw its stars Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger, Mix Irons, and Jake Abel. Also in attendance were director Andrew Niccol and author Stephenie Meyer.

Based on the popular author's sci-fi novel, aliens attempt to take over the human race by inhabiting their bodies and minds, but their plans may backfire when Ronan's Melanie is inhabited but still retains some consciousness.

Irons tells Yahoo's OMG that "...it is a science fiction movie at heart, it is a story of human survival. Yes, it has the romance, but I think it has a lot more for a lot of different people."

According to theHollywood Reporter, the premiere and the after-party courted the look of the movie by featuring sparkling orbs hung from the ceilings, waiters and bartenders in white suits and a blue carpet instead of the usual red. There was even one of the silver cars from the movie for fans to admire.

Before the screening, Niccol invited the actors on stage to speak, as well as Meyer, who stated that she loved watching the film as much as she loved helping to make it. Niccol also remarked during the premiere that the author was involved in the process every step of the way.

The movie opens in theaters on March 29.
