Reports are surfacing that Jay Leno is planning on stepping down from hosting The Tonight Show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC denies claims that Leno is ready to step away from his desk. However, sources close to the situation claim the contrary.
The announcement is slated to come in May which will state that Leno will make the 2013-14 year his last. He, along with rival David Letterman, already signed a contract which will take them both through the 2014 season.
A rep for Leno tells THR, “We do not speculate on rumor.”
Speculations continue to surface about NBC hoping to bring in a younger demographic and, if the network opts to bring on Jimmy Fallon’s late night show to a different time slot, the network may be able to beat out ABC.
“The more time Jimmy Kimmel is in that slot, the more the young audience goes that way, the harder it is for Jimmy [Fallon] to keep that audience,” a source revealed.
Huffington Post notes that if the rumors prove true, this would be the third time Leno’s position was threatened on the network.
