Funnyman Jim Carrey has confirmed that he will reprise his role as the loveable doofus, Lloyd Christmas, in the sequel to the Farrelly brothers’ 1994 buddy comedy Dumb & Dumber.
This announcement comes after a year of Carrey waffling over whether he would commit to the project. On April 1 2012, co-director Peter Farrelly initially reported to ComingSoon.net that production was underway saying, “We're getting set to shoot Dumb and Dumber 2 in September. It's the first sequel we've ever done and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back.”
However, a few weeks later at the 2012 TV Land awards, a cagey Carrey told Access Hollywood that the movie “may be happening” and that there was a script “floating around.” Carrey didn’t say he was attached to the project but he appeared to be positive about the movie’s progress.
Two months later Carrey announced that he was walking away from DD2. ET Online reported that Carrey was disheartened by a lackluster reception of the sequel from executives at New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Carrey told ET exclusively, "I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer. After all, it's implied in the title."
But yesterday E! Online reported that Carrey was back on board for the Dumb & Dumber sequel. At the premiere of his latest comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone at the South by Southwest festival, Carrey told E!, “I’m ready. There is a script. It’s fun. Jeff and I are raring to go.”
Now with a confirmed script and the return of the title character actors, the Farrelly brothers are simply waiting for the green light from administration.
