John Mayer announces first tour since undergoing surgery

By Daniel S Levine,

John Mayer disappointed fans when he said he wasn’t going to be able to tour for Born & Raised, his latest album, but he announced today that he will be returning to the road. This summer, the “Shadow Days” singer will be touring the U.S.

The singer posted the dates on his website. While he will have some key dates next month at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in New York and at the New Orleans Jazz Festival, Mayer will wait until July to hit the road.

His first stop is Milwaukee’s Marcus Amphitheater for Summerfest, then he’ll continue with dates in Cincinnati, Bonner Springs, Kansas and Dallas. He’ll keep touring the U.S. until October, with dates in Toronto, Buenos Aires and Rio De Janeiro thrown in. The tour wraps up at the Hollywood Bowl in LA on Oct. 5.

According to Billboard, this is Mayer’s first tour in three years. He will be donating $1 from each ticket to NICRE for veterans.

Mayer took a rest from performing after vocal cord surgery in 2011. He performed for the first time post-surgery in January.

“The greatest gift I have in my life is the opportunity to play again, which is also the opportunity to dream again,” Mayer recently told Billboard. “My dreams were in escrow, but when I found out this thing in my throat had receded, the most exciting thing for me was having a second chance at a new life. My dreams have come true twice. That's really cool.”

You can check out the full list of tour dates at Mayer's site.
