After a day of speculation, Justin Timberlake confirmed that he is already working on a follow-up to The 20/20 Experience, which was just released this month.
Timberlake spoke with Ryan Seacrest on Monday to talk about The 20/20 Experience and his future, revealing that the album is only the first half, reports Reuters.
“I've got to clear up the rumors,” Timberlake said. “This whole thing about this only being the first part ... is true. There is another half. I'm not giving you a release date.”
Timberlake’s comments followed rumors sparked by the Roots’ Questlove, who reportedly wrote on a message board, “Spoiler alert, 20/20 Vol. 2 comes out in Nov. 10 songs now ... 10 songs later = 20 vision.” Questlove had worked with Timberlake every day last week on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Timberlake has been everywhere promoting the album and the single “Suit & Tie.” In an interview with Billboard, Timberlake’s manager, Johnny Wright, revealed that the entire project had been at least three years in the making. However, it wasn’t until last year that Timberlake, 32, suddenly told Wright that he was in the studio with Timbaland.
“I said what are you guys working on?” Wright recalled. “And he said, ‘I’m working on my stuff.’ I was kind of shocked because, you know, I wasn’t prepared for that!”
Timberlake and Jay-Z are also going on a stadium tour this summer.
