Now that the Academy has scheduled the 2014 Oscars, there are rumors about who will host the ceremony. Considering that Justin Timberlake’s name has been everywhere lately, he’s now been added to the list of potential hosts.
The rumor that Timberlake could host the Oscars comes from the National Enquirer. The Daily Mail reports that the tabloid’s source said, “The Oscar honchos are in discussions with Mr. SexyBack already.”
“Getting Justin to host would now be a huge coup for the Oscars. He'd been considered before, but they always thought he was too young and not seasoned enough,” the source continued. “Now, he's the frontrunner for the job after showing he knows how to sing, dance, host, and improvise on the spot.”
While Timberlake certainly does have experience hosting live shows (he’s hosted Saturday Night Live five times), the Academy rarely picks the Oscar hosts before choosing producers. Last year, Seth MacFarlane wasn’t picked until after the Academy appointed Chicago producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron to produce the broadcast.
There were also rumors that Jimmy Fallon is ‘favored’ by the Academy.
Meanwhile, Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience will debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart this week, but the question is how many copies did it sell? Billboard notes that analysts are predicting over 950,000 copies, although some suggest it could have sold over 1 million.
The 2014 Oscars are set for March 2, 2014 so the ceremony avoids the Winter Olympics.
