Keira Knightley will star in a short film directed by Karl Lagerfeld, marking the 100th anniversary of the very first Chanel fashion boutique.
The Atonement actress will play Coco Chanel in the film and the movie will be filmed in Paris later this week. Clotilde Hemse will play Gabrielle Chanel’s aunt Adrienne.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, the first boutique opened in the seaside town of Deauville. The film will make its debut in May, when Lagerfeld goes to Singapore to debut the brand’s next cruise collection.
Style Bistro reports that Lagerfeld as recruited some Chanel campaign and catwalk people to star in the film alongside Knightley, who is the face of the Coco Mademoiselle perfume, and Hemse, like Stella Tennant, Tallulah Harlech, and Caroline De Maigret, as well as Brad Kroenig and his son Hudson (who is Lagerfeld’s godson).
Knightley has gushed about Lagerfeld before, saying “Karl's amazing. He's an avid reader, and he speaks about five different languages, so he'll be rattling off in English to you and in French to someone else, and in German to someone else and then the phone rings and he's speaking in Italian.”
