Broadway darling Kristin Chenoweth is just as surprised as her fans that her anticipated UK tour was cancelled a mere three days before she was to fly to London.
Chenoweth took to Twitter to assure her fans that she was perhaps even more disappointed than they. She posted a picture of herself with a giant black suitcase with the caption: “Was ready to go. And now completely devastated. I am Sorry to my uk fans. Not a good day. A horrible day.”
Chenoweth was supposed to go on tour in the UK starting in the London Coliseum March 11 and ending in the Wales Millennium Center March 17. According to ATG Tickets.com, she was going to perform an array of music genres including pop, opera, and of course musical theater.
But on Friday, BroadwayWorld.com announced that the tour had been – at the time – inexplicably cancelled. A spokesperson for Chenoweth made an official statement apologizing for the inconvenience: “We wish to make it clear that the decision to cancel the tour is a result of Speckulation Entertainment's unforeseen circumstances, and that Kristin is saddened not to be able to perform [in the UK] as planned.” Ticket holders were then instructed on how to get a full refund.
A few days later, BroadwayWorld updated their story to explain that Speckulation Entertainment’s “unforeseen circumstances” were in fact financial troubles. The tour was cancelled due to lack of funding.
Chenoweth has continued to express her disappointment via Twitter since Friday's unfortunate news, and fans have responded in kind with their sentiments.
