Massapequa man pleads guilty to faking his death

By Deana DeLisio,

Raymond Roth, 48, of Massapequa New York, has pleaded guilty to faking his own drowning.

In Nassau County court on Thursday, Roth plead guilty to fourth degree conspiracy, and is expected to be sentenced on May 21, as stated in LongIslandPress.com.

Jonathon Roth had told police that his father went swimming at Jones Beach and hadn’t returned. Loe and behold, Raymond Roth was actually on his way to his time share in Orlando, Florida while search teams desperately searched ocean waters for him, reported The Associated Press.

Raymond Roth is required to pay $36,000 in restitution to the United States Coast Guard and Nassau Police. Twenty two year old Jonathon Roth has a pending case against him.

Raymond Roth has since enrolled in culinary school and is looking to make amends with his son. Jonathon Roth now accuses his father of manipulating him to participate in this scheme.

Evana, Roth’s wife, had filed for divorce last year after learning of her husband’s fake death.

Evidently, as soon as authorities started to catch wind of what was going on, Roth called to turn himself in. He could face up to fifteen years in prison.
