By Alexi Knock,

Mexico’s Carlos Slim holds his place as the richest person in the world for the fourth year in a row.

According to Forbes’ 2013 list of the richest people on the planet, Slim remains at the top.

Berkshire Hathaway Inc.'s Warren Buffet fell out of the top three for the first time since 2000. However, he was the year’s second-biggest gainer with an added $9.5 billion to his net worth.

Slim, an investor and chief executive of Grupo Financiero Inburso, is worth $73 billion. His net worth went up $4 billion from 2012.

Bill Gates took second place with a net worth of $67 billion and Spain’s Amancio Ortega is third with $57 billion.

While many people’s net worth grew in 2013, Mark Zuckerberg’s ranking dropped 31 spots.

According to The Associated Press, 1,426 people made Forbes magazine’s list of billionaires, a record-breaking number.

The United States has the most billionaires at 442.

The list included 138 women, with L’Oreal’s 90-year-old heiress Liliane Bettencort as the world’s richest woman.
