Singer Michelle Shocked denies reports claiming she has an issue with marriage in the gay community despite using homophobic slurs during her concert in San Francisco.
We previously reported that during her performance at Yoshi’s in San Francisco on Sunday, Michelle made some shockingly disparaging remarks including, “When they stop Prop 8 and force priests at gunpoint to marry gays, it will be the downfall of civilization, and Jesus will come back," and "You can go on Twitter and say, 'Michelle Shocked says God hates (anti-gay slur)’.”
After her hate speech, the staff turned off the lights, cut off her microphone, and started issuing refunds to the crowd, many of which had already started to exit the venue, reports SF Gate.
Since the controversy, ten of her upcoming eleven tour dates have been cancelled.
Shocked has taken to her Twitter account to reply to some of the backlash she has been receiving.
“Most don’t even know what my ‘views on Gays’ are. What is reported to be my views on Gays isn’t,” she posted.
@ftunny Most don't even know what my 'views on Gays' are. What is reported to be my views on Gays isn't. #shortsharpshocked #truthvsreality

She also said, “[I] am neither against a woman’s right to choose nor gay marriage. Am a fundamentalist tho."
@murray_burns Thanks for keeping an open mind, Chris. Am neither against a woman's right to choose nor gay marriage. Am a fundamentalist tho

Shocked has not apologized for her statements nor fully explained them in any of her Tweets. At this point, it is unsure whether her comments were made ironically or if she was expressing how she truly felt.
