In just under two weeks, the much anticipated third season premiere of HBO's Game of Thrones kicks off what looks like and should be another excellent season of television. HBO has been releasing trailers intermittently, adding new footage each time. With the release of the most recent trailer, it seems as if the scale of the show is getting bigger, if that was even possible in the first place.
The first image, or sound rather, is that of wings over the ocean along with the reflection of a dragon. Fans of the books and the show have been waiting for this since the series was announced. Daenerys has finally found her ship, and she sails to Westeros to reclaim her throne.
The next portion of the trailer sets up the continuation of the war between the Lannisters, the Starks, Stannis Baratheon, and the newcomers to the party, Mance Rayder and his army beyond the Wall. While season one shied away from showing most of the battle scenes, the season two episode "Blackwater" threw the viewers right in the thick of battle. Season three looks to be doing that in spades.
The closing image, just as was the opening, is of one of Daenerys' dragons, but this time, it's raining fire.
Game of Thrones third season premiere is set for March 31 at 9 pm. There are 10 episodes scheduled.
