New Jason Bateman thriller ‘Disconnect’ releases trailer (Video)

By Lena Finkel,

You might just want to heave your laptop out the window after watching the new trailer for the internet thriller Disconnect. The drama follows the interweaving stories of families and couples who must face the consequences when online relationships go south.

The film stars Jason Bateman, Alexander Skarsgard, Paula Patton, and Andrea Riseborough and is directed by Henry Alex Rubin. Rubin previously directed the Oscar-nominated documentary Muderball.

Disconnect focuses on three different stories of those who have become victims of technology. In one of the major plot lines of the movie, Bateman’s son is led to believe he has entered an online relationship by a few school bullies but is eventually tricked into sending some risqué photos of himself (to which Bateman does not reply too kindly). Meanwhile, Skarsgard and his girlfriend Patton must face an identity thief and Riseborough enters into a relationship with a minor after interviewing him about an underage porn site, according to The Hollywood Reporter .

Disconnect premiered at the 69th Venice Film Festival last year and has since been compared to the Oscar-winning movie Crash, as stated in Cine-Vue . The drama will hit theaters April 12th.
