New trailer released for Joss Whedon’s 'Much Ado About Nothing' (video)

By Meaghan Fleming,

The first trailer for Joss Whedon’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedy Much Ado About Nothing was released on Thursday.

Yahoo! Movies posted the trailer, which can be seen below:

The black-and-white Shakespeare adaptation is filled with actors from Whedon’s many projects including: Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Clark Gregg, Ashley Johnson, Tom Lenk, Reed Diamond, Sean Maher, Fran Kranz, and Nathan Fillion.

The movie was filmed in October 2011 at Whedon’s home in California in only 12 days, reports the Huffington Post. Also, although it’s a modern take on the play, Whedon kept the original Shakespearian dialogue.

According to the Austin Chronicle, Whedon and his wife Kai Cole have held play readings at their home with actor friends for many years. Whedon states he was able to have his “dream cast” for the movie.

“Amy and Alexis were always in the mix. And when I started to think that I might really do this, so now I need to figure out who I think the rest of them are, obviously Nathan Fillion as Dogberry was the first thought that crossed my mind,” Whedon said. “And then I sort of had been nosing around a bunch of friends, finding out, ‘Well, are you free when ...?’ and ‘Is it possible that you could ...?’ without telling them why and ended up with my dream cast, because everyone was either free or made the time.”

The film premiered late last year at the Toronto International Film Festival. It will be released in theaters on June 7.
