NYPD cop Miguel Gomez was arrested on Friday for using surveillance equipment to spy on his female neighbor.
Gomez was allegedly taping a 21-year-old woman coming and going from the Bronx apartment building in which they both reside, Metro US reported.
According to NY Daily News the 41-year-old offer is charged with unlawful surveillance. His mother, Juliana Gomez, came to his defense.
“My son is a very good boy and wouldn’t do a thing like that,” she stated to reporters Saturday night, before refusing any more questions.
Police are adamant that he did not use state resources for his peeping-tom antics, and would be subject to additional charges if he had.
Gomez joined the force in 2005. Law enforcement would not release his relationship to the female subject of his surveillance, where the cameras were located or whether he had recorded any footage.
This is the most recent in a series of rogue cop arrests. New York has also overseen the recent trial of so-called “Cannibal Cop” Gilberto Valle, the 28-year-old father and husband who, in his behind-the-scenes other life, planned to murder and then eat women, the Daily News reported.
