President Obama’s Twitter account has retweeted an image originally tweeted by Yoko Ono, the widow of John Lennon, that showed the former Beatles star’s bloody glasses.
She wrote, “Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980.”
Ono continued in more tweets on Tuesday, “31,537 people are killed by guns in the USA every year. We are turning this beautiful country into war zone” and “Together, let's bring back America, the green land of peace.”
According to CNN, President Obama’s account is managed by the organization, Organizing for Action, which led his re-election campaign.
They have been promoting Obama’s push for a ban on assault weapons and other gun control proposals.
Lennon was shot and killed outside of his New York City apartment building he shared with Ono by Mark David Chapman.
Also included in Ono’s string of tweets was "The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him."
