In this week’s episode of USA’s Psych, Shawn’s father Henry embarks on a crazy journey to Mexico with his new “friend,” Juliet’s stepfather Lloyd. Lloyd is played by Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development).
The episode begins with everyone at a party at Juliet and Shawn’s house. The two decided to move in together in the previous episode. Shawn is really excited that Henry and Lloyd appear to be getting along, so he sets up a lunch meeting for the two. Shawn wants them to become best friends right away, despite Juliet’s insistence that he should let the friendship happen naturally.
Lloyd calls Henry and tells him he has to pick up a package. Henry lives near the place, so he tells Lloyd he can pick up the package before lunch. Unfortunately for Henry, he ends up fleeing gunmen after picking up the package. The chase scene is entertaining and Corbin Bernsen (Henry) and Tambor have great comedic chemistry. The two get in a plane and Lloyd flies them over the border into Baja California, to Henry’s dismay. He and Lloyd argue and Lloyd admits he’s never landed a plane, but still they land safely.
Lloyd tells Henry used to have a gambling problem and has to bring the package to Pablo Nunez, played by Tony Plana (Ugly Betty). If he delivers the package, which is a pair of cuff links with sentimental value, then his debt will be forgiven. They are not able to go to Pablo right away because the cops believe they are trying to give Pablo engraving plates from the U.S. Mint. They prove this is untrue and leave, but are taken after they leave by Pablo’s people to his compound.
Shawn and Juliet are unaware of the crazy adventure their father’s are on until Lassiter gets a call about the mailing center shooting with descriptions matching Henry and Lloyd. Juliet admits that she checked Lloyd out before and knows he had gambling issues in the past but wanted to give him a chance.
Since they are unable to contact either man, the gang heads to Baja because Shawn remembers seeing Lloyd looking at a map of Baja on his phone. Gus comes along and discusses feeling like a part of his girlfriend’s family now. His new girlfriend has a son and Gus is torn between wanting to spend every moment with them, and feeling completely overwhelmed.
In Mexico, Shawn, Gus, and Juliet meet the cops who say they never saw Henry or Lloyd and say they do not believe in physics. Shawn wins them over by telling about the affairs the detective he dubs “Mexican Lassie” is having with the two women in the office. The Detective tells him where Pablo’s compound is, and the area where he often buries his victims.
Henry and Lloyd were treated kindly by Pablo and his people for a while, but Lloyd steals the engraving plates from Pablo. Henry and Lloyd are then forced to dig their own graves. Henry’s angry at Lloyd and responds by tossing dirt into Lloyd’s grave. Shawn, Gus, and Juliet try to find a way to save them and are captured.
There are only two graves, so they all argue over who is sharing, which is hilarious. Gus demands he’s been through enough with Shawn to share a spot in his grave with Juliet, while Henry demands he not be buried with Lloyd. Mexican Lassie rescues all of them and they return home.
They receive news that Lloyd stole the engraving plates and is on the move. Shawn doesn’t believe it and figures out Mexican Lassie is corrupt. They go to save Lloyd and get there in time to see him shot. Everyone believes he’s dead, until Shawn notices he’s wearing a bulletproof vest. Lloyd is perfectly fine and Henry is annoyed with him again.
