Queen Elizabeth has been hospitalized for a severe stomach bug.
According to Us Weekly the Queen was taken to the King Edward VII Hospital Sunday for gastroenteritis. Reports say she began feeling ill on Friday.
A spokesperson for the palace released a statement to the BBC saying that the Queen is in “good spirits” and that her stay at the hospital was just a “precautionary measure.”
“She was not taken into hospital immediately after feeling the symptoms,” said the spokesperson. “This is simply to enable doctors to better assess her."
Queen Elizabeth will remain in the hospital for at least two days for observational purposes. In addition, all her official engagements this week have since been cancelled until she has recovered.
BBC noted that it has yet to be decided if Queen Elizabeth’s plans to visit Rome with the Duke of Edinburgh next weekend will be rescheduled as well.
Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge were attending a wedding in Switzerland when their grandmother was transferred to the hospital.
