Rep for One Direction calls off tattoo contest

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

One Direction has called off their tattoo competition, which sought after fans to send over their best tattoos to win tickets to one of their concerts. The competition was revealed in a tweet, which was posted Sunday, and has since been removed.

According to E! News, a rep for the British boy band released a statement to BBC.

“This tweet was posted in error and has now been removed. One Direction do not want to encourage any of their fans to get 1D tattoos,” the rep explains.

BBC notes that the competition was also pulled as it could potentially encourage their much younger audience to get body ink -- something their parents would be not too thrilled about.

News of the contest comes just days after it was revealed that Taylor Swift’s ex beau, Harry Styles, inked a large butterfly on his stomach. Styles is continuously showing off his tats, which are rumored to be in the 30s.

Zayn Malik also has a handful of tattoos as does Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne. E! notes that Niall Horan does not have any tattoos that are visible.
