Ridley Scott, Fox reportedly interested in Christian Bale for their Moses film

By Daniel S Levine,

While Warner Bros.’ Moses epic is now on the lookout for a director, Fox’s rival project, titled Exodus, is moving along. Ridley Scott is interested in directing and he and the studio are reportedly looking at Christian Bale to star.

According to Deadline, Scott and fox are courting the Dark Knight Rises actor. However, the first priority is getting a script done. Adam Cooper and Bill Collage wrote the first treatment, but Scott’s American Gangster writer Steve Zaillian has just been signed to rewrite.

Indiewire notes that Cooper and Collage’s script was described as more of an action film along the lines of 300, but Zaillian could add more intelligent aspects to the story.

Scott said last year that he is looking to focus the film on aspects of Moses’ life that people don’t know about. “Some of the details of his life are extraordinary,” he told Esquire in 2012.

Scott is currently finishing up The Counselor, but after that he has to direct Showtime’s The Vatican pilot. Bruno Ganz (Downfall) was just cast as the Pope in that project, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

It looks like Biblical epics may be a new trend in Hollywood, with Darren Aronofsky’s Noah hitting theaters in 2014. Warner Bros. has its own Moses project, titled Gods and Kings.
