Sex and the City fans were polarized when CW executives announced a prequel to the iconic show called The Carrie Diaries. The show, which premiered early this year, tracks Carrie Bradshaw’s early years and path to New York City.
E! News reports that Net-a-Porter asked Sex and the City star Sara Jessica Parker about the new show - and her comments were less than enthusiastic.
Parker said to Net-a-Porter, “I'm not sure…You know, I think it's one of those tests of your generosity. She [AnnaSophia Robb] is a lovely girl and I want her to feel good about it, but it's…odd."
Odd it is. Critics of the show argue an adolescent prequel to Sex and the City sugarcoats the show’s legacy of scandal, sex and intrigue — which included many nude and borderline pornographic scenes.
The Carrie Diaries star, Robb, however, is extremely excited about the television show. On Thursday the actress celebrated the end of shooting the show’s first season by tweeting, “Last day on set! Our incredible wardrobe dpt dressed in full 80s!!! And did a flash mob in one of our scenes…That's a wrap on season 1 of #thecarriediaries."
You can watch The Carrie Diaries Mondays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
