Next Friday, the show that helped put Selena Gomez on the map, Wizards of Waverly Place, returns to the Disney Channel for a one-night only one-hour special.
The series aired its final episode early last year, and since then, Selena Gomez, 20, has been trying her hand at more mature, risky roles. Gomez may be getting older, but she was more than happy to return to the Wizards set to play Alex Russo one more time in The Wizards Return: Alex Vs Alex.
According to TV Guide, Alex Vs Alex follows the Russo family to Italy to visit relatives. Things go awry when Alex Russo (Gomez) tries to prove she’s not just a kid. She accidentally casts a spell that splits her into good and evil. When Evil Alex conjures up a plan with another wizard to take over the world, Good Alex must find a way to stop the evil plan.
Gomez talked about returning to the role of Alex Russo in a new interview with Teen Vogue.
"It was absolutely a blast, but it was kind of weird to get back into it,” she admitted. “It took me a couple of days to get back into being Alex. But I've missed the cast. I mean, they've watched me grow up and they've been there from day one. It was so much fun to be back together."
Gomez calls the time spent on the show her “high school experience.”
She said, “We shot the pilot when I was thirteen, so this has been my high school experience. I've definitely experienced the things that Alex has gone through and I feel like I grew up with her in a way."
The Wizards Return: Alex Vs Alex premieres March 15 on Disney Channel. A week later, Selena Gomez can be seen in a more risqué role playing Faith in Spring Breakers. She says despite the fact that they are very different from each other, She’s “so proud of both of them.” She also feels very “fortunate” that she’s been allowed to show her fans different sides of herself.
