Seth Rogen to direct, star in Sony’s ‘The Interview,’ James Franco could co-star

By Daniel S Levine,

Seth Rogen and James Franco have appeared together plenty of times and will do so again this summer in This Is The End. They could already have another team-up in the works with The Interview.

The film, set up at Sony's Columbia Pictures, was written by Evan Goldberg, who co-directed The End with Rogen. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the project centers on a talk show host and a producer who unwittingly gets tangled up in a plot to assassinate the North Korean prime minister. The story was originally hatched by Goldberg and Rogen with Daily Show writer Dan Sterling.

Rogen is set to star as the producer and Sony is interested in casting Franco as the talk show host.

THR’s sources suggest that Sony wants to make this for $30 million. The studio was apparently impressed with Rogen and Goldberg’s work on The End, so they want to get the team back together as soon as possible for The Interview.

As Indiewire notes, Rogen and Franco have frequently appeared together, starring in The Pineapple Express, Knocked Up, The Green Hornet and Freaks & Geeks.

Rogen is currently slated to star in Universal’s Townies, while Franco can be seen in Spring Breakers and Oz The Great and Powerful. This Is The End hits theaters on June 14.
