By Lena Finkel,

After a rocky second season, many have wondered whether Smash is doomed for cancellation. With filming wrapped up, fans are speculating that Smash might be wrapped up for good.

Rumors of cancellation should certainly be of no surprise to fans of the show. The most recent episode of Smash dropped 22 percent in ratings, according to Entertainment Weekly, and only pulled in about 2.6 million viewers. The series has been dragging along in ratings all season long.

And now that season 2 has finished filming, various stars have begun tweeting about the end of the show. Actress Katharine McPhee tweeted all day long with pictures and updates on the “last day of shooting,” but it wasn’t until Debra Messing’s tweets that cancellation seemed like a real possibility. The actress tweeted, “Closing another chapter…Thank you #smash. Much love d.”

Could it be that NBC executives have finally pulled the plug?

According to The New York Times, cancellation won’t be easy, as the network has already invested about $70 million in the series. And although the show has been generally unpopular, it has garnered a small fan base among the wealthy.

Do you think Smash should continue or should NBC just cut their losses?
