Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara already turns up the heat on whatever screen she’s on, but now she will literally be adding Heat in her next project. She is reportedly in talks to star in a remake of the 1986 Burt Reynolds film starring Jason Statham.
Variety first reported the casting news. Simon West (Expendables 2) will direct with a script from William Goldman, who also wrote the novel and the screenplay for the original film. Statham is co-producing with Steve Chasman’s SJ Pictures.
The new version follows Statham as Nick Escalante, an addicted gambler in Vegas who takes security jobs to make money. He has to take on the mob when his friend is beaten.
Before Heat gets off the ground, Vergara will be seen on the big screen in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills, which hits theaters on Sept. 13. A new poster released by Entertainment Weekly shows Vergara’s powerful bra, complete with machine guns. Vergara is playing Lady Desdomona, alongside Danny Trejo, who plays Machete.
Vergara is also lending her voice to Smurfs 2 and stars on Modern Family.
As for Statham, he recently starred in Parker with Jennifer Lopez. He is slated to appear in Homefront and a third Expendables film.
