Karl Urban is going to continue his association with J.J. Abrams. The actor, who played McCoy in the Star Trek reboot, has landed one of the lead roles in Abrams’ robot cop pilot at Fox.
Urban will play the human cop in the series, John Kennex, reports Entertainment Weekly. The character has been critically injured and has an emotional breakdown. With the series set in a future Los Angeles where officers are teamed with robots, Kennex will have to work with his partner robot.
According to Deadline, Kennex’s robot partner, Dorian, will be played by Michael Ealy (Think Like A Man, Common Law).
The series, now titled Human, was picked up for a pilot in January. It was developed by Abrams with J..H. Wyman (Fringe) and will be executive produced by Abrams with Bad Robot’s Bryan Burk. Lily Tyler (Six Feet Under) will also star.
Urban is reprising the role of McCoy in Star Trek Into Darkness, which hits theaters on May 17. He also starred in Dredd 3D last year.
Abrams also has a pilot at NBC titled Believe, which was co-created by Alfonso Cuaron. That pilot will star Kyle MacLaughlin, TV Line confirmed last week.
