Stephen Amell, star on ‘Arrow,’ says he ‘had a meeting’ about ‘50 Shades of Grey’

By Daniel S Levine,

Stephen Amell, the star on The CW’s Arrow, posted several videos answering fans questions on Facebook, but one in particular has a lot of fans talking.

In a video posted Thursday afternoon, the actor admitted to having a “meeting” about the Fifty Shades of Grey movie being produced by Universal Studios’ Focus Features.

“I get questions about Christian Grey all the time,” he said at the beginning of the 24-second clip, notes TV Guide. “That project is a long way off. I know this, because I had a meeting about it. Long way off. I mean, not that long, but not close. I wouldn't call it long, but I wouldn't call it close.”

If he does take the role of Christian Grey, he isn’t concerned that it will get him typecast in similar roles for the rest of his career.

“You know what you have to do to get typecast?” he said in another video to a fan. “You have to work. A bunch. And working as an actor is the most important thing. I think one of the highest honors you can have as an actor is to be typecast because that means you've done a significant amount of work in one specific realm.”

Amell’s comments came after rumors earlier in the week suggested that Emma Watson would have a starring role in Fifty Shades of Grey. But she took to Twitter to laugh at those rumors.

All that’s currently known about the Fifty Shades of Grey movie is that Kelly Marcel has signed on to adapt E.L. James’ erotic novels.

Universal should probably get moving though, since you don’t know how long 50 Shades will stay popular. Based on Amell’s comments, it sounds like they could be years away from making it.
