A Swiss acupuncturist has been found guilty of infecting sixteen patients with HIV.
Due to rules on Swiss criminal proceedings, the man’s name will not be released, reports Reuters.
Most of the people infected were students of the man, who ran a music school and also had an acupuncture practice on the side. Authorities were notified by a young man after he was infected and told police where he thought he had contracted the virus.
Some victims have said that the man jabbed them with a needle from behind during their treatment.
The man was free on bail when he stopped attending his own trial. Police raided his home and found him inside, holding a knife and threatening the police.
According to Fox News, the infections occurred between 2001 and 2005.
The man has been sentenced to twelve years and nine months in prison, but prosecutors had originally asked that the man be sentenced to fifteen years.
