Sara Gilbert is hoping to return to sitcoms with Bad Teacher, the pilot based on the 2011 Cameron Diaz film in development at CBS.
Deadline first reported the news, confirming that Gilbert will star as Irene, an English teacher who is shy most of the day. But when you talk to her, she turns out to be a little intense. She will star alongside Ari Graynor (Fringe), who was cast as the titular Bad Teacher last month.
The Bad Teacher pilot was written by Hilary Winston (Community), with the film’s directors, Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, producing. Don Scardino will direct the single-camera pilot.
Gilbert, who gained fame by starring on Roseanne, is a co-host on CBS’ The Talk. Deadline notes that she will stay on The Talk if Bad Teacher gets picked up as a series, since both shows will air on CBS.
Her last sitcom role came in a recurring part on CBS’ The Big Bang Theory.
Bad Teacher is just one of several comedy pilots in contention for the fall at CBS. The network also has a new project from Chuck Lorre titled Mom and two from Raising Hope’s Greg Garcia.
