Too much salt can cause death

By Deana DeLisio,

Salt is linked to a large number of deaths per year.

Results of a study were shared today in New Orleans at an American Heart Association convention that stated that 2.3 million deaths were related to eating too much salt.

According to Bloomberg.com, fifty percent of cardiovascular deaths or diseases, and strokes are all caused by the amount of salt someone intakes. Forty
percent of deaths in question are premature deaths.

The United States ranked number nineteen of the thirty largest countries who citizens have died because of the amount of salt consumed.

Bread and cheeses are two of the main culprits that attain a significant amount of salt, reported ABC News.

“One way you can have more control is to shop the perimeter of the supermarket,” said ABC News’ chief health and medical editor Dr. Richard Besser, “That’s where you will find fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and dairy products. When you cook with these ingredients you have control over how much salt you take in.”

People are advised to pay close attention to the products they are consuming due to the amounts of hidden salt nestled within them.
