Tara Riley, 26, of Medford and Amanda Kosby, 27, of North Bellport have been arrested Wednesday night in a parking lot for heroin possession. Riley’s four year old daughter and Kosby’s five year old son were in the backseat.
According to the Gothamist, the two mothers were found in a 2002 Ford Explorer in an East Patchogue apartment complex on Montauk Highway around 9:30 p.m.
Two open bags of heroin were found, “instruments containing heroin” were confiscated and the two women admit to getting high earlier in the day, reported The Long Island Press.
Both women were charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, in addition to criminal possession of a controlled substance, and criminal procession of a hypodermic needle.
Both Kosby and Riley were arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
Suffolk County Child Protective Services have been notified and both children have been released into the arms of trusted family members.
