After the last date on their reunion tour, Girls Aloud has confirmed that each member is going her separate way.
We previously reported the UK group, consisting of Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts, and Sarah Harding, were brought together on the TV show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.
Girls Aloud’s accomplishments include 22 consecutive top 11 singles in the UK, and two of six albums reaching number one on the UK charts.
The girls were on a three year hiatus between 2009 and 2012, when they came together to release a greatest hits CD, Ten, and embark on Ten: The Hits Tour to commemorate their 10 year anniversary.
The girls took to Twitter to break the news of their split after their final tour stop in Liverpool on Wednesday.
“Dear Alouders, we just want to say from the bottom of our hearts Thank you!! This tour has been an amazing experience and the perfect chance to say thank you for being on this journey with us through a decade. It has far exceeded any of our dreams and we hope we are forever your inspiration and reminder that dreams really do glitter!! Your love and support will stay with us forever but we have now come to the end of our incredible time together . Love you lots.”
The band’s announcement is not surprising as break-up rumors have emerged countless times over the past few years. Possible reunions at a later date have not been ruled out.
