Unopened Taylor Swift fan letters end up in dumpster

By Daniel S Levine,

Nashville resident Kylee Francescan is getting a lot of Internet attention for going to a dumpster. Not because she was throwing anything out of great value, but because of what she discovered: piles and piles of unopened Taylor Swift fan mail.

Francescan went to a dumpster behind the Granberry School in Nashville to throw out her own stuff when she made the surprising discovery, she told WKRN.

“I was like, ‘That's weird,’” she said. “There were like hundreds of letters in there to Taylor Swift and I'm like, ‘Oh my gosh!' I didn't know if they were stolen [or] discarded, so I threw them in a box. And I'm like, ‘Somebody needs to let Taylor know.’”

Most of the letters, sent from around the world, were addressed to Taylor Swift Entertainment, which has a P.O. Box at a strip mall in the area. The strip mall owner told the station that a Swift staffer will often come to the mall to pick up letters periodically.

Francescan says that she hadn’t opened any of the letters, but since she knows “how much her fans mean to her,” she knew she had to contact the station.

As E! News notes, WKRN did contact Swift’s rep, who sounded very concerned about the news.

“Taylor gets thousands of fan letters everyday and they are delivered to her management office. After the letters are opened and read, they are recycled,” the rep stated. “The only explanation for any letters being unopened would be that a small batch of mail that was supposed to be delivered to Taylor was accidentally put with letters headed for the recycling center. We sincerely appreciate Channel 2 bringing this to our attention, and we plan to immediately pick up the mail.”

It’s still likely that the letters won’t actually reach the Red singer (after all, her tour starts tonight). The rep said they’ll be handled appropriately, which means recycled.
