Wachowskis’ ‘Jupiter Ascending’ to hit theaters in July 2014

By Daniel S Levine,

Fans of Andy and Lana Wachowski will not have to wait too long to see their follow-up to Cloud Atlas. Their next film, Jupiter Ascending, has been scheduled for a July 25, 2014 release by Warner Bros.

According to HitFix, the film will star Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables) and Sean Bean (Game of Thrones). It’s another film about alternate reality from the Matrix team, centering on a woman (Kunis) who is targeted by the Queen of the Universe because she poses a threat. In this world, the humans are at the bottom of evolution.

The Wachowskis could use a box office hit, since Cloud Atlas grossed just $27 million at the box office, despite starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry. It also failed to garner any Oscar nominations and will be released on Blu-ray in May.

Currently, Jupiter Ascending’s only competition is Paramount’s Hercules with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Deadline notes that Warner Bros. also pushed Grudge Match to Jan. 10, 2014. The Robert De Niro/Sylvester Stallone boxing comedy was originally scheduled for Nov. 15, 2014. Peter Segal is directing.
