This Week in Music

By Lori Alamia,
Bruno Mars hits #1, nothing holds Bieber back and more...

Bruno Mars hit number one on the Billboard charts. Even though Unorthodox Jukebox was released in December, a great deal from Amazon increased the sales.

Mars has fans of all ages. On Ellen this week, adorable four year old Kai sang his rendition of “Grenade” from Mars’ prior album Doo-Wops and Hooligans.

Here is the very cute video of this kid:

Chris Brown is still causing trouble. Brown dissed Drake in a club when his song came on.

Nothing can keep Justin Bieber down. Despite collapsing at a concert in London this week, Bieber finished the show before going to the emergency room.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Motown co-founder of the Miracles Bobby Rogers passed away this week. He will be remembered for setting the stage for Motown music and classic songs like “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me” and “What’s Going On.”

Despite rumors, Liam Payne is not leaving One Direction to spend more time with his girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Uncle Jesse meets the Black Keys. Actor John Stamos is a big fan and will be performing some of the drumming on their upcoming album.

The Boy Scouts lost some big names in music. Carly Rae Jepsen and Train cancelled a Boy Scout performance due to their anti-gay policies.

The Kennedy Center just got a little cooler. It will be hosting its first Hip Hop Festival featuring Nas and K’aan.

In new releases:

Jimi Hendrix fans can enjoy unreleased songs from this legendary artist. People Hell & Angels came out this week and features 12 never released songs.

Singer and songwriter John Ritter released his first album in about three years Beast in its Tracks. Sung in the speak/sing fashion of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, he captures thoughts and life after his divorce.

Jazz artist Madeleine Peyroux released her new album Blue Room. She reinterprets many songs from Ray Charles’ Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music giving it her own lovely twist.

Female country artist Ashely Monroe released her second album Like a Rose. It includes a duet with Blake Shelton “You Ain’t Dolly (and You Ain’t Porter)”

And finally, country artist Luke Bryan released his first full length album Spring Break.
