Teaming up with Universal Music Group, filmmaker Asif Kapadia and producer James Gay Rees will be pitching an Amy Winehouse documentary at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
The two men previously worked together on the 2010 movie Senna, and are excited about capturing the ups and downs of this singer's life, according to Perez Hilton.
The festival is said to run from May 15-26, according to Idolator, and the untitled documentary has high hopes of drawing foreign buyers.
The British artist died in 2011 of accidental alcohol poisoning, selling more than 12 million copies of her much-celebrated album, Back to Black.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Focus International Co-President Alison Thompson is very excited about the project: “Asif and James have the remarkable ability to bring a moving and thought-provoking story to life, as evidenced by Senna. We look forward to seeing their vision of Amy Winehouse."
