CBS to pre-empt ‘Vegas’ for Boston Marathon bomber coverage

By Daniel S Levine,

The media has not stopped covering the manhunt for the alleged Boston Marathon bomber and will continue into prime time tonight. CBS has already announced that the Dennis Quaid drama Vegas will not air a new episode tonight.

According to Entertainment Weekly, CBS will air CBS News Special Report: Boston Bombers at 9 p.m. with Scott Pelley anchoring the program. Vegas has been rescheduled to Saturday night at 8 p.m. The network will also expand its CBS Evening News to an hour.

Deadline has also confirmed that ABC will expand its ABC World News to an hour as well. 20/20 and Nightline will also feature live coverage from Boston.

NBC already has Rock Center with Brian Williams scheduled to air tonight, so it is likely that the network will cover the situation from Boston during the timeslot.

The cable news networks, including CNN, MSNBC and Fox News have been covering the story non-stop.

The entire city of Boston and surrounding suburbs are under lockdown while police search for Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19. According to The Boston Globe, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick is suggesting that all residents in the area stay at home during the search.

Service on the MBTA transit system has also been shut down and Amtrak has stopped trips to New York.
