It was a tragic night in Denver, North Carolina as two children were already expected to be dead before their bodies were recovered from the scene. Parents of the two young victims are still mourning from the unexpected, devastating situation.
According to Sheboyganpress.com, a 6-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl in a rural North Carolina town were wandering underneath a new home that a family member was building when the structure collapsed, trapping the two young children below ground. One of the children's fathers dialed 911 at approximately 6:00 PM, and in minutes a rescue team from various parts of the county and nearby states were assembled on the scene to assist.
The article reported the crews' reaction to the tragedy. Lincoln County Emergency Services public information authority, Dion Burleson, said in a statement, "We worked as if they were alive. Times like these are very difficult. It's devastating for the family and each and every responder." Rescue teams used shovels to dig and other equipment to locate the children.
After a long while, the rescue team was able to locate the bodies of the two children and pull them up from 24 feet down in the pit of the construction site, according to Omaha.com.
As noted by the Daily Herald, the public was informed that the two children were cousins. Pictures of the incident may found in the article.
