Asa Butterfield turns 16 today!
Born in London, Asa Maxwell Thornton Farr Butterfield started his acting career at the age of seven.
He used to act on Friday afternoons after school at Young Actors' Theatre in his hometown Islington.
Butterfield debuted his acting career on-screen in 2006 television flick After Thomas, and debuted his film feature in 2007 Son of Rainbow. A year later, he appeared as a guest star in Ashes to Ashes.
In the same year, he led a main protagonist role in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Director Mark Herman said Butterfield's performance was outstanding. He garnered a British Independent Film Award nomination for Most Promising Newcomer for his performance here.
Butterfield's movie credits included a Merlin's episode "Beginning of the End," The Wolfman, Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, Martin Scorsese's fantasy flick Hugo. Leading a groundbreaking main protagonist role, Butterfield won a Las Vegas Film Critics Society award, nominations for Saturn Award, Satellite Award, Young Artist Award, and Empire Award.
