Hunger Games fans who have waited patiently since last spring were finally rewarded with a nearly two and a half minute trailer for November’s Catching Fire.
Introduced by Liam Hemsworth during the MTV Movie Awards, the trailer previews the first half of the upcoming film from Lionsgate, according to Mashable.
The trailer opens with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), fresh from the horror of the 74th Annual Hunger Games, as they stop at District 11 on their Victory Tour. Although you hear the crowd cheer, you also see the quiet and questioning faces of the masses as they spark a deadly riot.
As people grow restless, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) is seen talking with Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), discussing the problem that Katniss has become, the subversive glimpse of hope that she gives to people outside the Capitol. In order to eliminate her, Heavensbee suggests that they turn the tide of popular opinion against her, make her into the image of the Capitol instead of the District 12 hero she is.
Gale (Liam Hemsworth) comes back into the picture as does Prim (Willow Shields), and neither seems to wish to sit idly by. However, President Snow is quickly devising a plan to eliminate the symbols of hope, the victors, and the trailer ends, leaving an opening for the Quarter Quell to pick up on.
Collider suggests that this second half of the story has been left out due to the fact that the footage is currently in post production. Or it could be a simple trick to keep anticipation high.
