Kate Hudson is on the cover of Elle U.K. this month and chatted about her family and life with Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy.
People reports that the two tried to have a traditional romance after meeting at Coachella in 2010, but those plans fell apart when she discovered she was pregnant with Bingham Hawn. Hudson already had one child, Ryder, 9, with ex-husband Chris Robinson.
“It was all very old-fashioned and proper, and we went on lovely dates,” she told Elle. “And two months later I was pregnant … Well, yes [I was shocked], but I also thought, ‘This is going to be interesting.’”
Although they’ve had “three wonderful years” together, she and Bellamy do not have any immediate plans to get married. “We will get married. I do think it’s important, but we have no plans...[Ryder] wants a party. For me it’s not the legal part that is important, it’s what it means to the family.”
Hudson recalled that she and her siblings always wanted their parents - Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell - to get married, but, “We ended up with something far more powerful,” she said. “We were all together at home, Dad gave Mum a ring and said some beautiful words. It was their own version of the ceremony and I remember it so well. It was like it was about us. The family was the glue.”
As for being a parent, she said that she’s a “lot less a rock chick” and more “about being a good mother, a good partner.”
She added, “I’m part of a family. That’s how we were brought up, how I bring my kids up. They are very blessed to live how they do, but they are aware of that.”
According to The LA Times, Hudson was in Washington on Tuesday to speak at the ANNpower Leadership Forum. “Take a chance on your own talent and your ambition because if you don't do that, there's no one else who will,” she told the group.
