Oprah Winfrey’s OWN schedules Tyler Perry’s shows, adds two more unscripted series

By Daniel S Levine,

Oprah Winfrey and Discovery Communications’ OWN Network have scheduled the premieres for Tyler Perry’s two new shows and ordered two more unscripted programs. The Perry shows will launch with a special Oprah’s Next Chapter episode with the Temptation director.

OWN said that the Next Chapter episode will air on Sunday, May 26 at 9 p.m. Another special focusing on the behind-the-scenes of the new shows will air after it.

Perry’s shows - the drama The Haves and Have Nots and the comedy Love Thy Neighbor - were ordered by OWN back in December after Perry signed a multi-year deal with Winfrey in October.

The Haves and Have Nots will start on Tuesday, May 28 at 9 p.m., while Love Thy Neighbor will kick off with two shows on Wednesday, May 29 starting at 9 p.m.

John Schneider stars in the drama as a powerful judge with a family, but also has affairs on the side. Crystal Fox, Renée Lawless, Aaron O'Connell, Tika Sumpter and Tyler Lepley also star in the series that will uncover the family’s darkest secrets.

Love Thy Neighbor stars Patrice Lovely as a restaurant owner with both business and family problems.

Perry wrote, directed and produced both shows.

The new unscripted shows, which have not been scheduled are Millionaire Mama’s Boy, about the relationship between Nuggets player JaVale McGee and his mother, former WNBA star Pamela McGee; and Houston Beauty, about Miss Glenda Jemison’s Franklin Beauty School.

"We are delighted to celebrate Tyler coming to OWN with these new specials as we ramp up to the debut of our first scripted series," Sheri Salata, president, OWN said in the press release. “Tyler's fans, like Oprah's fans, are incredibly connected and passionate. We can't wait for them to see these shows.”
