The red band trailer for Only God Forgives debuted online Wednesday and it has as much ass-kicking as you would expect from the next collaboration between Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling.
The film was made in Thailand, which had famously kept him from going to the Golden Globes last year. Based on the minute -and-a-half trailer, it looks like Gosling is out for revenge and Vithaya Pansringarm is his target. Kristin Scott Thomas plays Gosling’s mother. The cast also includes Tom Burke and Byron Gibson.
Refn recently joined Twitter to keep fans up to date on the project, previously releasing three stills. All of these shots are in the trailer. It appears that Pansringarm not only uses a sword, but turns chopsticks into a weapon, while Gosling looks on.
At the end, Gosling challenges his opponent with, “You wanna fight?”
There’s no release date set for the film, but don’t be too surprised if it premieres at Cannes next month. Drive earned rave reviews in 2011, so fans are itching to see what Refn and Gosling have up their sleeve.
