Although Selena Gomez went through a breakup during the recording process of her new album, she didn’t want to make it a breakup record. Instead, she wanted to do the opposite. that's what she did. She made it a fun, positive album.
Jason Evigan of The Suspex, who worked with Gomez on the album, sat down with MTV News and said that the 20-year-old didn’t want to talk about Justin Bieber too much on her album.
"She didn't really want to talk about the Justin stuff too much in her music," he said. "She didn't want to bash him. She never wanted to write songs about him."
According to Evigan, Selena didn’t want to say “you broke my heart” through her music because that’s not the message she wanted to send her fans.
"She wants to be empowering for these girls not to dwell on guys when guys break your heart,” he said. “She's super uplifting, positive, amazing person who's, spiritually, she's really strong. And she's a really cool girl. I think she's gonna have a great year for her."
Selena Gomez will release a brand new song, “Come & Get It” next week. As for the rest of her album, while it apparently doesn’t dwell on heartbreak, Selena recently told Parade fans can expect “a little bit of everything.” Everything includes dance, island, Spanish influences. Ellie Goulding also had a big influence on her new music.
The new album is due out this summer.
