‘Veronica Mars’ Kickstarter passes $5 million with hours to go

By Daniel S Levine,

Veronica Mars fans have made sure that creator Rob Thomas will have a sizeable budget for the movie version of their favorite show. The Kickstarter project, which has just hours to go, has reached $5 million.

Last month, when Thomas and star Kristen Bell launched the project, they never believed that there would be so much support that they would reach their $2 million goal in 10 hours. They reached $3 million by March 15, at which point Thomas admitted that it was time to start working on the movie.

Now, the Kickstarter project has less than 13 hours to go and it’s up to $5.3 million. Thomas thanked his fans again on Twitter and Bell recorded a new video this week.

According to E! News, Thomas also emailed his backers to confirm that they will be hosting an event at the San Diego Comic-Con in July.

“Even if we have an official panel at SDCC, we're planning to pull out all the stops for our own exclusive event, so this is the one you'll want to be at,” Thomas wrote. The event will take place on “July 19, 2013 at 7:30 PM, in what I understand to be an intimate theatrical venue in the Gaslamp District, near the Convention Center.”

If you want to attend the VIP event, you have to donate at least $150. However, even if you only donate $10 you still get a reward - a document with the shooting script and a set of stickers.
