Actress Zoe Saldana is reportedly in talks to join Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news, the Star Trek Into Darkness actress will play the green-skinned Gamora. She’s a skilled assassin and the last member of her species, the Badoon. Saldana has plenty of experience acting in uniquely-colored skin, having starred in Avatar. She is also set to reprise the role of Neytiri in Avatar 2.
So far, Guardians only has two other actors attached - Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista. Pratt (Parks & Recreation) is set to play the leader of the group, Star-Lord. Bautista, a WWE star, will play Drax the Destroyer.
Other roles to cast are Groot, a talking tree, and Rocket Raccoon, a skilled weapons engineer who happens to be a raccoon.
Guardians is set to start production in June with James Gunn directing. The film will be released on Aug. 1, 2014.
Saldana will be next seen on the big screen as Uhura in Star Trek Into Darkness on May 17. She’s also making Out of the Furnace with Christian Bale.
