‘Community’ creator Dan Harmon could return

By Daniel S Levine,

Community was surprisingly renewed by NBC, despite a low-rated, poorly received season four that was overseen by two new showrunners after creator Dan Harmon left following season three. Now, it looks like he could be back and is reportedly in talks to rejoin the cult show.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Harmon is talking with NBC and Sony Pictures TV, which produces the show. It’s not clear if he would return as showrunner or if he would take on another role.

News that Harmon was talking with Sony broke after he told his fans on the Harmontown podcast that he was asked to return. A Hollywookie reporter was in the audience and the site noted that Harmon asked for the statement to be edited out once the podcast is uploaded online. Harmon then said, “Ahhh F**k it. I don’t care who knows!”

Harmon was fired shortly after the third season finished and soon his battle with former star Chevy Chase went public. Chase eventually left the show and was often missing in episodes during the fourth season. He was replaced by David Guarascio and Moses Port. Many fans were disappointed by how they handled the show, so Harmon’s possible return should come as a sigh of relief.

Even though Community is coming back, when it will is still a mystery. The show was not on NBC’s Fall 2013 schedule.

Sony did not confirm the report.

The show stars Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Donald Glover, Danny Pudi and Yvette Nicole Brown.
