As news that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West named their new baby girl North West, others with the now (in)famous moniker have come forward to reveal how their directional name has brought positives and negatives.
“The name really gets attention. I wouldn’t change it,” North E. West told New York Daily News. “With me, it worked in the dating scene. It was just interesting and unique and set me apart.”
West, an acupuncturist from Richland, Penn., said that he’s been “grinning” since he heard that the famous pair had given their little girl the same name.
“I’m so happy about it. It’s a pretty unforgettable name, and I know my past girlfriends are hearing it everywhere right now. It’s like a little dig. They get to reflect on their past and the one that got away,” the 56-year-old said.
When asked what inspired the unusual name, West’s mother said it was her son’s father that chose it.
“It sounded pretty good to me,” Ferne West said, “I like it. I like the idea of it. It’s free-spirited.”
Fans of Kardashian and rapper West have not responded positively to the baby’s name, as jokes about the punny name have popped all over the Internet. Kardashian herself originally laughed at the name when talk show host Jay Leno suggested it in an interview back in March.
According to the Daily Mail, Kardashian refuted the rumor that North was on her and Kanye’s baby name list.
“That is not one of the names on our list,” the brunette beauty responded quickly, before suggesting something else. “But that I do like Easton West.”
