Beyonce asks for moment of silence for Trayvon Martin

In the wake of the not guilty verdict for George Zimmerman, the man accused of killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February 2012, superstar Beyoncé showed her support for the Martin family by offering a moment of silence for the murdered teen.

At her concert in Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, Beyoncé took the stage and began by asking fans to hold their applause, The Huffington Post reports.

"I'd like to have a moment of silence for Trayvon," the singer said, before singing the chorus of “I Will Always Love You,” the Dolly Parton song made famous by Whitney Houston, which transitioned into a heartfelt performance of the diva’s own “Halo.”

Beyoncé’s support for the Martin family came just 30 minutes after news of the not guilty verdict reached the media. Dozens of celebrities vocalized their disappointment and outrage at the verdict via Twitter .

Rapper Young Jeezy debuted a new song, "It's a Cold World (A Tribute to Trayvon Martin)," in the aftermath of the announcement on his Facebook page, writing, "I am in no way shape, form, or fashion ... trying to capitalize off of the latest series of events. These are my true feelings and my form of expression about it."
